| So after braving the cold winter, the cherry blossoms have decided to bloom. Cherry blossoms are these trees that flower for two weeks in the spring. The whole tree becomes covered with beautiful small white flowers, and one tree looks like a flowery cotton ball. In DC these trees were originally a gift from Japan, and are dispersed throughout the city. You can see these white and rosy trees most everywhere in the city and even in the suburbs. In fact, the most beautiful trees I've seen are right next to my metro stop for work in Maryland. Anywho, there really something to see. Such beauty really makes you value the spring. Having come through winter, I feel jubilant about the upcoming spring, and these cherry blossoms are like an announcement: 'spring has arrived!' Its great. I love it. | | |
| Sooo I went to Chicago!!! It was really fun. I went to all the fun spots, like the Magnificent Mile, Wrigley Field, The Sears Tower, The Hancock Building (which I always though was the Sears Tower). To all my art loving friends, I went to the Art Institute and saw the most magnifcent paintings of the last 200-300 years. Monet, Manet, Polluck, Van Gogh, Picasso, Dali, and my favorite...'Nighthawks' by Edward Hopper...that's the one where they'res four people in a coffee shop and none of them is really having a conversation. They're all in their own minds. I got some nice pictures too. I'll give you a link soon so you can see all my chicago exploits...
After being in Chicago's ZERO degree weather, I was actually happy to return to DC's 40 degrees. After being so cold that it hurts to breathe, DC isn't really all that bad. Today it was snowing...kind of. It's what they call 'flurries' out here. Basically it's snow, but the snow flakes are a lot bigger. So when you're outside and it's 'flurrying', it looks like the air has polka dots. It's kind of funny looking. Anywho, I'm halfway done with my internship!! Yea!! The weather is getting warmer, and I'm exploring the city more. I like it here. It's hard being away from family and from friends, but they'res a lot to gain out here that I overlooked before. I'm excited for the weeks to come, and glad that I decided to stay longer than I had initially anticipated. Hope everyone is doing well, and that you're all enjoying sunny california.
Oh something else cool happened today that I just remembered. I got to DRIVE!!! My co-worker let me drive her car on the way back from lunch...man that was nice. I forgot some things though...like remembering to constantly look in the mirrors, and look ahead...don't worry though....it all came back to me. no accidents
| Hi all. Sooo I'm going to chicago this weekend with friends!! I'm really excited because I've never been there and I've always wanted to go. I hear it's going to be really cold, so I'm bringing all of my super warm winter clothes. I'm really excited to experience the city, go to some jazz clubs, get some deep dish pizza, go to some new museums, and have a grand adventure!! I'll let you know how it goes!!
Anywho, right now at work we have the annual conference for substance abuse prevention, where prevention groups from all accross the nation come to the D.C. convention center for an opportunity to network, learn stuff in conferences, and meet with government officials. It's pretty exciting because having everyone here sharing their experiences and wisdom is really enriching. I feel like I'm totally learning useful stuff. And, its a good opportunity for me to network and try to get a job when I return to SD. Anywho, I hope everyone is doing well, let me know how you're doing!!
| Hey all!! So I've been dying to tell you about my weekend! (last
weekend). K so me and my roommate decided to go run some errands around
our neighborhood (bank, post office, etc). So we strolled around the
neighborhood for a while and decided to walk a little bit further.
After a while, we were getting near the national mall, and we were like
'let's go to one of the museums" sooo we went to the national gallery
of art. We stepped in and it was AWESOME. There were large marble
pillars inside circling a giant rotunda with a fountain in the middle.
We got to walking around the museum, and we saw a Leonardo da Vinci
painting (the only one in the western hemisphere). It was so beautiful!
It really stood out from the others in its time period because of its
detail and clarity. Very awesome. Then we walked around a little bit
more and we saw some rembrandt! Lots of it! That guy was totally into
himself! Lots and lots of self portraits! k so then we looked around
some more and we saw some John Paul Rubens!! Remember Rubens becky! I
really liked his stuff. really moving pieces. Color, drama. GREAT! I
think you did a report on him in high school. Anyway, before venturing
up to the paintings we heard about a free piano concert that was going
to happen in the museum later that day. So around the time it was going
to start we got in line. We were near the middle of the line, but when
they started letting people in we rushed to the front and got two seats
right in the front next to the piano! The concert was dueling pianos so
it was two pianos and two players. The pianists were brothers and were
world renown players. They played magnificently. And after every song,
they got up and bowed right in front of us. They bowed to an audience
of 200 people but were right in front of us, making eye contact with
us, and winking at us. Maybe they thought we were cute, or maybe just
different from their typical audience of stuffy socialites. But anyway,
they played some Strauss, a french piece that I can't remember the
title, and the nutcracker! And for an encore, they played this modern
piece by a polish composer. It was so amazing. It had minor chords
althrough it and sounded lyrical but also choppy in other places. What
was best was when they played the same notes together or the same
rhythm but with different harmonies. They were so together and so in
tune with how the other played. It was truly something spectacular!
Anywho, I hope all is well with everyone. Leave me a message!

| ahhh. friday friday friday!! Yea Friday!! I havn't decided what I'm going to do this weekend...my friend was talking about going out to dinner and discussing fun travel plans to New York, Philly, Boston. That'll be fun. So I've started becoming more active around town, going out more often and really trying to take advantage of my time here in DC. Not that I wasn't previously, but I've realized that because I'm working full time, I really have to make an effort to get out. Otherwise, I'll just sit at home tired from work. This whole, full time work thing really grains on you after a while. I wouldn't reccommend it. . Anywho, I hope everyone is doing fine in California and Arizona. I'm sure you're having lovely weather. Over here, it's probably going to snow on tuesday. What fun! The first snow! | | |
